Surgical unit, is one of the busy unit in the hospital , fast paced admission and discharge happens, it is as well where pre operative, discharge planning  and post op health education is very crucial. Careful discussion  of the patient concern  is essential including pre operative assessment and information on how to meet patient's basic needs, information of pain management, rehabilitation and post op care are vital. Communication is one of the tool that lessen the anxiety of the patient, by being culturally oriented that give us the ability to deliver, impart, assist in meeting the psychological and spiritual needs of the patient and plan of care

 

Effective communication is an important part of the interaction process and collaboration, by actively listening to your patient, carefully understand and attend patient's concern . And if this emerged there will be a positive and provider outcome. 

Eventually, establishing rapport would ease discomfort / anxiety, expectation of hope , develop optimism rather than despair and achieve harmony enables nurse - patient relationship to be an equal partner in achieving wellness

 

For Me, Travelbee's theory defines as, Nurse - Patient relationship is a substance of the nursing profession but does not set limits regardless of status and culture but into a more interaction relationship based on mutual trust and respect and maintaining mutual bounderies as well.
